Computer engineering is a field that combines computer science, electronics engineering, and electrical engineering to drive advancements in digital technology, computer networking, and computer systems. Computer engineers leverage their extensive knowledge of hardware and software design and computer programming to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of computing platforms and applications. They seamlessly integrate the latest innovations, develop new computer hardware, design software applications, and improve the capabilities of networks and communication systems.
Computer engineers work with both hardware and software, ensuring their smooth integration and proper functioning. They focus on innovation, striving to make computing systems safer, faster, and more powerful.
At the career level, computer engineering offers two main paths: hardware engineering and software engineering. Hardware engineers specialize in computer systems and components, designing microprocessors, circuit boards, routers, and other embedded devices. On the other hand, software engineers create, test, and debug programs and applications that run on computers, mobile devices, and other platforms.
Starting from the academic year 2023, Oxford College has introduced a Bachelor's degree program in Computer Engineering.
Objectives:
The primary objective of this degree is to equip students with knowledge in programming, hardware organization, operating systems, theory of computation, and principles of programming languages. These skills will enable students to pursue careers in technological fields such as systems programming, technical support, research, and teaching.
The educational goals of the BE Computer Engineering program at the Oxford College are as follows:
Career Opportunities
Those who have an interest in a computer engineering career are not limited to specific roles in hardware engineering or software development. In reality, obtaining a computer engineering degree provides opportunities for various employment paths, including networking, systems development, web development, and information technology. Presented below is a compilation of potential career options that graduates of computer engineering programs can explore.
